BIGGER, BETTER, FASTER

Big Data helps? Well I guess it does helps us a lot especially for businesses. OH! I forget for you guys who don’t actually know what a big data is, “Big data is a term that describes the large volume of data, both structured and unstructured, that inundates a business on a day-to-day basis.” Well that’s according to SAS. For me, and probably for you guys who don’t understand what big data is from the sentences before, it is basically a bunch of data full of information.

There’s has been a huge change with Big data and the uses of it. First of all, the big data today is very large in volume. According to IBM each day people actually created 2.5 quintillion bytes of data. 2.5 quintillion = 2,500,000,000,000,000,000.

Not only more data has been created, but the most important thing is that now the creation of data is faster than it used to be. Ben Walker from the Vouchercloud reveal that every minutes, people actually contributed to 204,000,000 email sent, 72 hours’ amount of footage uploaded to YouTube, 277,000 tweets, and 216,000 Instagram post.

The last things are that the creation of the big data nowadays came form a larger variety sources. More of it nowadays came from social media such as Instagram, twitter, Facebook, and probably path.

All of these changes in big data enables business to create a better decision making. This is because big data helps business understand consumer better. Such as business could know where people are at the moment, what do you usually buy, and as it goes further, business could even know consumer habits, the product they like, and even deeper. They could probably know you better then yourself. By knowing this, it leads business to be more cost efficient. As business could know to whom they need to targeted.

Well in a way it actually benefits me as a consumer. By company knows what I like, they could give me an advertisement about the product I love. Well I don’t need to search for it, it’ll popped out by itself. But somehow what people see is that their privacy is being invaded. So, what about you, what do you think?

  1. Hey, I really enjoyed reading your post this week! I liked the way you broke down the concept of Big Data into simple terms. I think more data can definitely help marketers target their customers better and compose more relevant campaigns and advertisements to suit our individual needs. This can definitely be a positive outcome of IoT’s and improve marketing strategies completely! However, the thought of marketers knowing all our information is a bit scary too and I’m not sure I’d completely feel comfortable or trust them with it.

    1. Hey Valentina!! Glad you enjoy the post!! Yeahh, i didn’t thought of it connecting it to the IoT when i was doing the post. But it’ll sure be a great discussion. Yeah it is a bit scary knowing that they have all of our information. However nowadays they got the privacy act and stuff so that they won’t do something bad with the info they have. But well sometimes it could be scary for me either. Thx for the comment!!!

      1. Hey, Yep especially in Australia where the policy and law are very strict. I feel safer giving my personal info here rather than when i’m on my own country. Thanks for the comment too.
